Bobbery abounds in Miu Miu’s latest campaign… plus more fashion news you missed
“Dinner & a chop,” wrote Gigi Hadid on Instagram a few weeks ago, under a video of hairdresser Chris McMillan cutting off her hair. Though the post was very “I did a thing”-coded, we couldn’t help think that the fuck ass bob agreed with Gigi – and now we get to see it in its first ever campaign. This week, the supermodel and her new cut star in Miu Miu’s latest leather goods campaign, one that features the Wander and Arcadie bags in caramel and canary. Shot by Steven Meisel and styled by Lotta Volkova, the campaign was inspired by the work of 1920s photographer Yevonde Middleton. Known as a staunch women’s liberationist and supporter of the Suffragette movement, Middleton became an icon of her practice, and also pioneered the use of colour in photography, which is heavily referenced in this current campaign. In other fashion news this week, Brockhampton star Kevin Abstract was unveiled as Loewe’s latest face; the iconic swinging 60s retail store Granny Takes a Trip got a 2024 relaunch; Taschen just dropped an Issey Miyake retrospective, so we looked back at the designer’s most innovative moments; Asiya Durrani let us into her Vivienne Westwood archive for a Seven Seas-inspired shoot; Risha Sunak killed adidas Sambas, so we rounded up all the trainers to wear instead; after designing Beyoncé’s outfit for the Cowboy Carter album cover, Mariano Cortez took us behind the scenes of his innovative latex brand; plus, Nike’s Blueprint pack was announced ahead of the Paris Olympics, so Dazed Fashion looked back at the Air Max’s subcultural past. OFF-WHITE MAKES A CHANGE
Off-White and AC Milan have just re-upped their ongoing collaboration with a limited edition drop. The new camel-coloured t-shirt declares “I SUPPORT SPORT FOR CHANGE” in bold red letters across its front, released in support of the club’s charity Fondazione Milan and its initiative to empower at-risk girls in Nairobi through football. The accompanying campaign features AC Milan players Nadia Nadim, Kosovare Asllani, Samuel Chukwueze and Yacine Adli. To shop the brand new t-shirt, head here.
GOOMHEO GETS AWAY
South Korean designer Goom Heo has just launched the AW24 lookbook for her eponymous label GOOMHEO. This season, the brand takes inspiration from runaways, swaddling its models in a series of wide-cut garments and herringbone Baker boys. “The collection’s campaign spotlights the moment before a getaway,” said the designer in a statement released with the Thomas Cristiani-lensed images. “Muses gather in a field. They group together for a moment of reflection and recuperation before they head off on a great journey ahead.” For more GOOMHEO info, head here.
KATE’S A CITY GIRL
Last week, Kate Moss was papped in gigantic sunnies and a white faux-fur while walking her dogs, a Balenciaga Le City bag slung around her arm. The Y2K It-bag – worn by Nicole Richie, Sienna Miller, the Olsen twins and many more – had made an official return, one that was confirmed when Moss popped up in a Balenciaga campaign in the same outfit days later. After years of demand, the Nicolas Ghesquière design has finally been brought back by Demna, who’s also tapped Mario Sorrenti to lens the moody campaign. Head here to check out the entire Le City range.
SIMONE’S COUTURE CROCS
Simone Rocha’s footwear offering is known for its oddball stylings and misshapen proportions, so it’s no surprise that the Irish designer has decided to join forces with Crocs. Now, the quirky girls of Clapton will have plenty more shoes to add to their arsenal, as the new collab comes in heel, flat and trainer options, all embellished with glistening jewels and opalescent pearls. Simoe Rocha x Crocs is available in store at Dover Street Market and at simonerocha.com.
LIGHTS, CAMERA, FASHION
Not content with rising to the top of the fashion industry, Saint Laurent has continued to stake its claim on cinema. Last year, the French house announced the launch of Saint Laurent Productions, its very own film production company. Now, three of the company’s films will be competing in the official selection at this year’s Cannes Film Festival: Emilia Perez by Jacques Audiard, The Shrouds by David Cronenberg, and Parthenope by Paolo Sorrentino. According to SLP’s website “all of the company’s films feature costumes by Anthony Vaccarello for Saint Laurent,” so expect some great fits too. For more information, head here.
